John Deere 5045 Problem – Engine Won’t Turn Over.

John Deere 5045e tractor won’t start. Battery charged, 12.8v to the terminals and 12.8v from the battery (+) to the ground wire. When I turn the key to start there is a “click” in the dash area. Turning the key repeatedly, he once tried to engage the starter momentarily. How to solve the problem?

One of the biggest problems you will run into is that the motor just won’t turn. It does not come close to starting. You may hear a click when you turn the key, but that’s it.

The most common cause of the engine not cranking is simply the battery. Either the battery itself is dead, the terminals are corroded and current cannot pass through them, or the battery cables themselves are damaged.

Inspect the battery terminals and cables and test the battery. If you don’t have a charge tester handy, you can remove the battery and take it to almost any auto parts store.

Check for a blown fuse, a 30 amp fuse can cause this problem.

Find the cold start advance solenoid for the injection pump. That short is a common John Deere 5045 problem.
